Polidora

We call this old stone house Polidora.

It is said to have been the house of Polidoro, a brigand that was hanged on Cerro’s beach in 1600.

For us, it has always been a “sweet home”, the place for roasting chestnuts and watching the sunset go down behind Isola Madre.

Polidora gives now its name to the B&B inside Intragnola Gardens.

Taxodium distichum in snow

A rare meteorological situation, the Taxodium distichum grove in a snow blizzard.

Thanks to that Lake that gives back some heat, it’s rare to have frosty winters on Lago Maggiore.

Winter 2005 drought

In winter 2005, Lago Maggiore reached a low level of 192.17m, exposing all the massive walls that Gerolamo Pirinoli built in the second half of 1800.

The winding walls are almost one Km long, and the granite is hand carved from the quarry in Baveno, on the opposite side of Lake Maggiore.

You could walk outside the walls without wetting your feet.
